This project represents an ambitious, adaptive re-use project, one that has transformed a large section of a downtown urban mall into a sophisticated banking centre for one of the world’s largest financial institutions.  Working within the building envelope of this existing mall, the creation of this call centre has been a careful exercise of “insertion”, whereby entirely new sections of floors were constructed within existing multiple height galleria type spaces.  To successfully accomplish this has required a particular attentiveness to the available structural, mechanical, and electrical infrastructure.  The resultant intervention has created 125,000 s.f. of quality office and training space within this long, galleria space.   As the dominant feature of the space, the sky-lit galleria atria were modified to control direct light and mitigate heat gain by the use of film and motorized shades.  Within the atrium an elevated break room was added, and acts as a central point for staff to relax with views to the exterior and without leaving the office environment.  Along with major structural infill efforts, other significant changes include the removal of escalators and the insertion of new elevators to all levels.
