Elgin West Community & Aquatic Centre

Richmond Hill, Canada

Situated adjacent to a District Park and archaeological dig site, this new complex includes an aquatic centre, multi-purpose rooms and Interpretive Centre.  An internal community street is the central organizing element and provides access to all facilities.  Clerestorey windows provide natural lighting and to the terrace and landscape beyond.  There are a 5-lane, 25-meter lap pool, and a toddler leisure pool with water slide, serviced by female, male and family change rooms.  The centre also includes multi-purpose rooms, meeting rooms, craft room, and kindercare room, monitored by a centrally located administration area.  The interpretive Centre functions as a working lab to process local artifacts from the adjacent First Nations McGaw archaeological dig site.
